What is EN 1729?
BS EN 1729 is a European Standard that determines dimensions, safety, stability, strength and durability of chairs and tables for educational institutions.
The standard is split into 2 parts;
Part 1: Functional dimensions (measurements and size markings).
Part 2: Safety requirements and test methods (strength and safety tests).
Why is it important?
The standard was introduced in 2007 to ensure that the furniture used is suitable for education use. Anthropometric data (human body size and shape) was taken from a large sample of students across Europe and used to provide details such as suggested seat and table heights.
Using the correct size furniture makes it more comfortable to learn, increases focus and can help prevent musculoskeletal disorders.

How can I find EN 1729 compliant furniture?
